Upcoming Markets and Shop Restocks

Upcoming Markets and Shop Restocks

Hi everybody! It's been sunny and 70 here the last week. I might remind you, I'm in central Illinois AND it's February! Yeah, well don't get too jealous. It might snow tomorrow.

But 2017 is filling up fast! It's fun filled at least! I wanted to give the lowdown on all the places you will be able to find me and moreygirl this year.

Right before Christmas 2016, I was invited to be a part of a popup shop at a cute little gift shop in Elmwood, IL. Elmwood is my husband's hometown, and we have lots of ties there. It's not far from my home either! Anyway, things worked out great with this shop so you can now find moreygirl at Every Little Thing in Elmwood all year long! They are making some exciting changes soon too so be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram!

Since I'm at Every Little Thing, I will also be participating in the Elmwood Strawberry Festival as part of the shop! It's being held the first Saturday of June. If you've never been, you need to go! Elmwood is the coolest little town with a great little town square. There are lots of vendors and every strawberry dessert you could ask for.

I put in my application for Main Street Market this year! It is held in Rockford in the spring and fall. I'm so excited to join Urban Farmgirl in this market! You seriously need to check out Urban Farmgirl's Instagram and make plans to come see me there. There will be a bunch of handmade vendors and lots of great vintage goodies there. May 20th and September 9th.

Farmstead Fair will be held in Normal, Illinois on August 26 & 27. It's hosted by Radar Family Farms, which is an awesome spot to head with the family during the fall season. Follow them on Facebook. Shannon has been sharing lots of vendors that will be there.

Of course, I'll be back at The Shed on the Spoon River Drive. I've been selling moreygirl there for quite awhile now. The Drive is always the first two full weekends in October. There's a lot of thrifting at this show but there are so many places to visit!

I am also hoping to be involved with the Hobnob Market again for their holiday show. There's no venue set yet so keep on the look out for that one!

So to sum it up:

Every Little Thing in Elmwood : all the time!

Main Street Market : May 20

Elmwood Strawberry Festival : June 3

Farmstead Fair : August 26 & 27

Main Street Market : September 9

Spoon River Drive : October 7 & 8, 14 & 15

Hobnob Market : November 17 & 18

Whew, I'm gonna need a nap. In light of all these markets, I'm going to be setting re-stock dates for my online shop. This way I can offer you more variety at a time, and the first choice of everything I have. So every month I'll let you know the dates that I'll be loading up totes to the site.

Online shop restocks :  March 10 & March 24

Selfish Sewing

Selfish Sewing

Have you been following along on ig lately? I've been doing a lot of sewing for myself, selfish sewing if you will.

Why, you ask? Well, I do believe it helps with my creativity. I very much like having a finished product at the end of the day. Quilts about drive me crazy because I just cannot get them all done in one sitting. Don't worry. The quilt I started on ig a month ago is almost finished! I just get bored, I guess.

mini blocks

Mini quilts have been lots of fun for me though. Those are the little quilts that you've seen on my ig. They are so much fun for me. As long as I can finish a little block, I'm good to go. I have found a few swaps through instagram, which are a ton of fun. You have a partner and know their name and ig handle. But you don't know who has your name and what they are making.

If you are wanting to join a swap.....you are asking the wrong person! I don't have any tips for finding them! I have honestly just been in the "right place" on ig at the right time. I do encourage you to search through hashtags.

I also finished a dress for myself! I'm super excited to wear it but it's been too cold. I'm ready for it to be 80 again. I would even settle for some sunshine.  Anyway, this is the Tova pattern by Wiksten.  It was not as scary of a pattern as I thought it would be. I didn't add the sleeves, mostly because I was scared, secondly because it's almost summer.

Lastly, be sure to join my newsletter! I'm going to try to be faithful in emailing it out. I will be announcing new products there first. To join, just click http://moreygirl.com. It's the gray box at the top of the page!

Spring 2016

Spring 2016

Do you ever start something and think "Geesh, that's a lot of work! I'm not sure I really want to keep doing that!" Yeah? No? Well, that is me and blogging. I struggle with what to write, how to say it, how many pics to post...you know, just everything. Because I don't want to sound like a preachy derp. I don't want to sound like a know it all; there is plenty for me to still learn.

But here's the deal, I've been listening to a lot of podcasts. I've been reading a lot of books, well, listening to a lot of books while I sew. And something I've learned lately is, that I have to start somewhere. I have to start period. I am really good about thinking up every excuse on why I'm not ready (see above). I'm really good at talking myself out of something.

Here we are then, back to square one with the good old blog. I'm not sure anyone reads them anymore. I honestly cannot hardly read a blog. All I want to do is look at pretty pictures, so if you have made it this far, thanks.

New things for moreygirl this year?

I've started a hashtag #moreygirlcreatesfor100days It's just a little group/hashtag on instagram called #the100dayproject. I joined in order to keep myself accountable. Follow along at moreygirl on instagram

I have been diving into the world of sewing my own clothes. I love having clothes that I have made. But I'm not loving the time it takes. I am super slow at it. Mostly because I am just not familiar with apparel patterns and techniques. Hopefully I will get better at it with practice. One great blog that I have been check out for tips is The Craft Sessions.

Finally, I have also been busy sewing for moreygirl. New bags, zippies, and wallets to come!  They will be in the shop on APRIL 29! I will be posting updates on instagram and my Facebook page too.

Banner for the Baby

Ever since we had Mattie, I've been searching for a way to get her name up on the wall in her nursery. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I came across some cute banners on Instagram. But they did not have names on them, they had little sayings on them.

It dawned on me that I could make my own. But I really didn't want to cut out all of the letters in her name. Yes, I realize that we gave her a long name!

First I started with picking out the felt colors and deciding how big I wanted each letter. Then I cut them with my Cricut machine. Now let me tell you, I watched a lot of youtube videos. And I threw away a lot of ripped up felt. I don't have a ton of tips except for iron on some Heat and Bond to the felt and make sure your mat is STICKY!

I laid it all out and ironed on the letters where I wanted them. That's where the Heat and Bond comes in handy. It's double sided so it irons to the felt then iron the felt to the fabric.

I ran a small pvc pipe through the top and tied it up with yarn. It's just what I had. You could easily use a wooden dowel.

I love how it turned out. I think Mattie is pretty happy about it too.

first day of school

The boys started school last week. It doesn't seem possible that the summer is over. Everything went fast this year. Maybe it's because once you throw a baby in the mix, all the days just seem to run together? I don't know. They played baseball this summer, showed their pigs, and they've already started football for the fall.

I think they were more excited than they let on. At least they haven't been complaining about school work or their teachers yet, anyway. But they do love their school. They love getting to see their friends everyday, which for a kid that doesn't live in town, is a big deal!

Slone is in 5th grade this year. I have a little bit of a complex about 5th grade. I can readily remember the year that I went. Not that it was a bad year or anything, I just remember thinking that I was grown up. I definitely didn't think of myself like I think of Slone. He's still only ten, at least until November.

Bo is in 3rd grade. All he is worried about is if they will get to play football at recess.

teether rings

I am in love with these little teething rings.
I will be honest...I probably wouldn't be as excited though if I didn't have a baby that thinks she's going to get some teeth here in the next few months.
They are hard maple, untreated. The yarn is organic from Amy Butler. It comes in some of the most wonderful colors. It's soft too but doesn't give off too much fuzz.

What's in a name?

The whole time I was pregnant, we argued about names. If you know my husband Matt at all, you know it was an argument, not a discussion. One day I jokingly suggested Mattie as her name. He latched on to that like a pit bull, and that was it.

New Beginnings

Hi, everyone!

I know it's been a long time since I've actually written a blog post. Life happens. The boys have been growing up and playing baseball and football. We added on to the house. Blogging got pushed to the side.
