all things vintage

I believe there's vintage and there's crap. Sorry, that's just the way it is. And around these parts it seems like antique stores are full of crap. There's tons of dirty old stuff that's been discarded. Or you have to wade through a bunch of reproductions. But it seems like there is always that diamond in the rough.

But give me something that I can paint or recover and I'm all about that;)

I've been known to buy my fair share at auctions. In fact, I've scored the 4 bowl pyrex set that are the yellow, red, green and blue bowls. I have a couple cool afghans. Mom just gave me a set of corell dishes to use in my kitchen. None of the furniture in my house is new. Most of it bought at auctions or second hand. I even have a chair I picked up out of the garbage (I recovered the seat, don't worry).

I love vintage things. Actually, I would almost have all vintage stuff. Especially, if it's vintage and it was my mom's.

Some of my favorite vintage things are what my mom has given me.

Check out that owl. She painted it. Before I was born. I saw the same one on Nester's site a while ago. She got hers at a yard sale. Nothing else here is vintage...mushroom: pier one, lamp: target, little bowl: gordmans.

She also painted that little vase there in 1977. Mushroom is pier one again and the birdie is from target.

It reads "Sue 1977" on the bottom of it.

I've had this ring for awhile now. Mom let me take it. I remember her wearing it a lot when I was a kid. It seemed like a huge ring back then. She would let use try on her rings during church. She had another turquoise ring that had "CJ" stamped on the backside of it. We thought that was cool because those are my sister's initials. I love this ring though, because everytime I put it on, I think my hands look like hers.

I got these just yesterday. My mom doesn't throw anything away and we were looking for some art to decorate my house with. We couldn't find the picture that I wanted. But I found her old jewelry box. These beauties were a high school graduation gift from one of her teachers. Her name was Mabel. They are awesome.

Thanks, Mom! Love you!

i totally agree with your first statement, and as fun as scouring shops is, sometimes it’s more meaningful and heartwarming to acquire those things from our parents and grandparents!
